Every successful HALKRON™ coating application begins with precise preparation & profiling of the metal substrate. All previously existing foul-release coatings must be completely removed, unless reapplying over an existing HALKRON™ coating. Any oxidation, mill scale, or any other surface contamination must be eliminated using at least a minimum Surface Preparation Standard of Near White Metal - SP10 (SSPC) or SA 2 1/2 (ISO). Mechanically profile surfaces by sanding or abraiding using 80-grit to achieve a consistent matte finish. *For more guidance, please refer to the Surface Preparation Standards Chart below.
Following mechanical profiling, the substrate must be chemically conditioned to stabilize and prepare the surface for long-term adhesion. All sanding residue and dust must be removed before applying HALKRON MAXPREP™ Surface Conditioner. The surface should be wiped thoroughly using lint-free cloths, with a final solvent wipe performed if required. Allow complete evaporation prior to coating. The substrate must remain clean, dry, and untouched before application. HALKRON MAXPREP™ ensures optimal surface readiness for Nano Bind™ integration and durable substrate bonding.
Once the surface is fully prepared, activate and apply the HALKRON™ system. Stir the coating thoroughly, integrate the Nano Bind™ additive, and mix completely to achieve uniform composition. Apply a continuous, even film using roller, or brush for detailed areas. HALKRON™ functions as a single-application system with no primer stack or secondary layering required. Ensure proper cure time of at least 48 hours prior to immersing in water. The result is a structurally bonded coating engineered for long-term protection and renewable service performance.
◌ Engineered for an Indefinite Service-Life Objective ◌ Single-Application Architecture ◌ Renewal Without Destructive Stripping
HALKRON™ bonds directly to properly prepared metal at the substrate level. By eliminating barrier layers and coating stacks, the system establishes a singular structural interface that defines long-term adhesion performance.
System strength begins at the metal itself.
HALKRON™ forms a reduced surface energy profile that modifies how marine organisms interact with the coating. Adhesion strength is structurally reduced, enabling easier removal during operation and maintenance.
Performance is achieved through engineered surface behavior — not chemical depletion.
HALKRON™ operates as a unified film. There is no primer-plus-topcoat sequencing and no internal layer dependency. The applied film is the complete protective structure.
This architecture removes internal failure planes and simplifies lifecycle planning.
Designed to support an indefinite operation service objective under standard marine conditions when properly maintained.
The system prioritizes structural reliability and performance continuity.
Additional HALKRON™ integrates directly over existing HALKRON™ when properly prepared.
Renewal reinforces the system — it does not reset it.
HALKRON™ does not rely on toxin release, chemical depletion, or material erosion.
Performance is structural, not sacrificial.
The film matrix is structured to maintain cohesion under hydrodynamic forces, mechanical cleaning, and temperature variation.
Durability is embedded within the film itself.
HALKRON™ is designed around real marine maintenance cycles. Routine cleaning supports longevity rather than accelerating degradation.
Maintenance preserves the system.
Underwater metal components are critical to vessel performance. Propellers, shafts, stabilizers, thrusters, brackets, and drive assemblies must remain clean and hydrodynamically efficient to operate as intended.
HALKRON™ is engineered to prevent that cycle.
Our single-application foul-release system creates a durable, high-adhesion barrier on underwater metal surfaces. It is not designed to wear away or require rebuilding. Instead, it remains intact across service seasons and can be renewed directly over itself when needed.
From private yachts to commercial vessels, HALKRON™ supports performance consistency where it matters most below the waterline.
HALKRON™ is engineered to solve one of the most persistent and costly challenges in marine environments: uncontrolled marine growth on exposed metal surfaces. When fouling attaches to underwater components, it does more than create buildup. It disrupts hydrodynamics, increases drag, reduces fuel efficiency, strains mechanical systems, and accelerates long-term material degradation.
Propellers • Shafts • Struts • Trim Tabs
Running gear components like propellers, shafts, struts, and trim tabs are critical to vessel performance and are highly sensitive to even minor fouling. HALKRON™ creates a smooth, low-friction surface that limits buildup adhesion, helping maintain optimal propulsion efficiency, reduce drag, and preserve mechanical balance over time.
Thruster Propellers & Internal Metal Componentsts
Thrusters operate in confined, high-turbulence environments where fouling accumulates rapidly and unevenly, impacting control and efficiency. HALKRON™ provides a non-stick, hydrophobic surface that minimizes adhesion, allowing thruster systems to maintain predictable performance and operate with reduced resistance and maintenance needs.
Submerged Mechanical Systems & Structural Metals
Platform lifts and submerged mechanical systems face constant exposure to water, moisture, and marine growth, leading to friction, corrosion, and wear. HALKRON™ reduces buildup on metal components, enabling smoother operation, easier maintenance, and prolonged system durability.
Internal Metal Surfaces • Water Intake Systems
Sea chests and intake systems are prone to internal fouling due to continuous water exposure and limited accessibility. HALKRON™ reduces the strength and rate of buildup, ensuring better flow efficiency and reducing the likelihood of blockages or system strain.
Exposure Above and Below the Waterline
Outboard lower units and skegs are exposed to both submerged and atmospheric conditions, making them vulnerable to fouling, salt buildup, and corrosion. HALKRON™ provides continuous protection across these environments, preserving both performance and surface integrity.
